Medicaid presents budget request to House Appropriations Committee
The Mississippi Division of Medicaid (DOM) presented its budget request for fiscal year 2016 to the House Appropriations Committee on Jan. 13. The agency is seeking an appropriation of $989,759,038 for the year, a revision of the $1,015,308,843 request made to the Legislative Budget Committee last October. That decrease of about $25.5 million is due to a change in the projected Federal Medicaid Assistance Percentage (FMAP) from 73.43 to 74.17 percent.
Dr. David J. Dzielak, DOM executive director, said while the percentage decrease is relatively small, it represents a significant change to the budget request because of the large numbers associated with the FMAP. The agency will next present the same request to the Senate Appropriations Committee.
