CMS approves Mississippi Medicaid proposal for MHAP hospital payments

The Mississippi Division of Medicaid (DOM) has received approval from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) for the first year of a required ten-year transitional plan for Mississippi Hospital Access Program (MHAP) payments. This approval ensures MHAP payments to hospitals will continue uninterrupted through fiscal year (FY) 2018 as DOM works with stakeholders to develop the next phases of its provider payment initiatives in accordance with recent federal regulatory requirements.

DOM is dedicated to working with CMS and stakeholders to preserve the MHAP funding and continue the required transition to a payment structure with linkages between payment and the utilization, quality or outcomes of delivered services within ten years.

The approval comes less than two weeks after Governor Phil Bryant named Drew Snyder interim executive director of the agency, and follows informational discussions in recent days with CMS and the Mississippi Hospital Association.
