Income Limits for Medicaid and CHIP Programs

Income Limits for Medicaid and CHIP Programs

Internal Revenue Service (IRS) rules for Modified Adjusted Gross Income (MAGI) are used to determine countable income and, in some instances, household size. Household gross income is then compared to the limits shown below based on household size for the applicable program. If gross income exceeds the applicable limit, a 5% disregard based on the federal poverty limit (FPL) is applied. Eligibility is determined for Medicaid first, then the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) considering the 5% FPL disregard. The limits below are effective March 1, 2016.
