Temporary Telehealth Procedure Codes Updated

The Mississippi Division of Medicaid (DOM) has updated the Medicaid reimbursement rates for audio-only telephone procedure codes 99441-99443 to align with new rates released by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). The effective date is March 1, 2020, for the new rates reflected in the chart below and available through DOM’s Interactive Fee Schedule. DOM’s Emergency Telehealth Policy.was also updated on May 18, 2020, to include the rate increases. A mass adjustment for affected claims has been requested and is forthcoming. Use of GT Modifier and Place of Service 02

If you are a telehealth provider, it is important to remember that professional claims (CMS 1500) for audio-visual telehealth services should be billed with a GT modifier and place of service 02. The temporary audio-only codes 99441-99443 and G2012 should be billed with place of service 02. Additionally, telehealth services billed on the UB-04 claim form should include the GT modifier. Providers are encouraged to visit DOM’s website to monitor updates to the Emergency Telehealth Policy. Services rendered through telehealth must be medically appropriate and in accordance with the qualified healthcare professional’s scope-of-practice, license, medical certification or Mississippi Department of Mental Health certification and in accordance with state and federal guidelines, including but not limited to, authorization of prescription medications at both the originating and distant site.
