Anthem data breach may affect CHIP beneficiaries enrolled during 1998-2009

Anthem, a health insurer, notified the Mississippi Division of Medicaid on Feb. 25, 2015 that they were the target of a cyber-attack. This security breach compromised personal information for 1,042 Mississippi CHIP beneficiaries enrolled during 1998-2009. Anthem will mail affected beneficiaries a notification letter.

At that time, the Department of Finance and Administration oversaw CHIP. Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Mississippi administered CHIP and Anthem was a health insurance vendor.
