The Mississippi Division of Medicaid (DOM) covers treatment for women who have been screened and diagnosed with breast and/or cervical cancer or pre-cancerous condition through the Mississippi State Department of Health’s Breast and Cervical Cancer (BCC) program. Eligibility continues throughout the course of active treatment for cancer. Women receive full Medicaid coverage while enrolled in the BCC Program.
Who is eligible?
Women, under the age of sixty-five (65), who:
- Have been screened for breast or cervical cancer by the Mississippi State Department of Health (MSDH); and
- Need treatment for breast or cervical cancer, including a precancerous condition of the breast or cervix; and
- Are uninsured and not eligible for Medicaid under any other mandatory coverage group.
Men with breast cancer are not eligible for the Division of Medicaid’s BCC Program.
This is a voluntary program; it is not mandatory for a beneficiary to participate in this program.
What services are covered under the BCC Program?
The Breast and Cervical Cancer Program provides full Medicaid coverage, which ensures access to needed medical services throughout the course of active treatment. Active treatment is the period in which the cancer is aggressively treated with chemotherapy or radiation. It does not include the time in which maintenance drugs are administered.
